Ballon d'Or 2017: Cristiano Ronaldo wins Ballon d'Or  award for FIFTH time and  equal Messi's record :


Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo beat Barcelona's Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d'Or award for the fifth time - and the second year in a row.The Portuguese superstar was voted the best player in the world once again - edging out Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Ronaldo won his first prize in 2008 before successes in 2013, 2014 and 2016.


He received the award at a glitzy ceremony up the Eiffel Tower on Thursday evening.

 where he said: "I'm very happy. To get this prize in Paris is a great experience. It's marvellous. It's a great moment of my career. It's something I wish I have every year.

 "We had a marvellous year. I was the top goal scorer of the Champions League, so I want to thank my teammates. They were important for me. And also thanks everybody who helped me to be in great form during the season."


Neymar finished third for the second time in his career. Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was fourth.

Two of Ronaldo's Real Madrid teammates followed, with Luka Modric fifth and Sergio Ramos sixth as the top defender on the list. Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann fell to 18th in this year's voting after finishing third in 2016.
