Ashes 2017/18:Australia beat England by 120 runs and take 2-0 lead in the series.

Josh Hazlewood snuffed out England's hopes of a remarkable second Ashes test triumph with two wickets in the first 16 balls of the final day as Australia wrapped up a 120-run victory in brilliant sunshine at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

Steve Smith's men take   2-0 lead in the Ashes series.

The second Test had been in the balance when play resumed at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, with England captain Joe Root still in the middle and his side having six wickets up its sleeve with 178 further runs required to complete a record-breaking run chase of 354.

However, the tourists capitulated and could score only 57 more runs before being quickly finished off for 233, Australia sealing a 120-run victory.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc mopped up the tail to take five for 88, his eighth five-wicket haul in tests, but Hazlewood played a vital role in this victory, he took the crucial wicket of Joe Root who can change the game any moment .

Hazlewood has not been at his best throughout the series but rose to the occasion when Smith needed him to on Wednesday.

After the match Root said, "I don't think we did ourselves justice. We're still massively in the series. We showed that from the way we played yesterday."

Steve Smith, meanwhile, was delighted to take a commanding lead in the Ashes series despite England’s admirable fightback during the Adelaide Test.
